Boarding House

Originally, this location was planned as a fire station, continuing a Disney Parks tradition inherited from the California park, where Walt Disney’s apartment sits above the Fire Station. The project was ultimately abandoned, mainly for budget reasons.

A solution to fill this space was found only very late in the process. Eddie Sotto then reimagined the building as a boarding house.

At the park’s opening, a sign reading “Rooms” suggested that rooms could be rented, implying everyday life above Main Street, U.S.A.

The building in its original design

Its architecture draws inspiration from the iconic houses of San Francisco, recognizable for their narrow, vertical façades, a type of housing later popularized by successful television series in the 1990s.
